SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A California man who shot his longtime friend after the man claimed to have raped his wife has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter.

Beong Kwun Cho was found guilty on Thursday and faces up to 21 years in prison.

Cho’s friend of more than three decades, Yeon Woo Lee, was shot in the back of the head in Anaheim five years ago.

Cho’s lawyer argued that Lee, who was from South Korea, wanted to commit suicide but didn’t want to cause shame to his family, so he arranged to have Cho kill him.

The defense said Lee wanted the killing to look like a robbery and when Cho balked at pulling the trigger, incited him by saying he’d raped Cho’s wife.

The woman testified that Lee sexually assaulted her.
