CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - Corpus Christi police say a man and woman were killed while sleeping on the beach when a driver struck their vehicle and it flipped onto their tent.

Police tell the Corpus Christi Caller-Times (https://bit.ly/29X4Sz3 ) that 32-year-old Lisa Marie Loftis and her husband, 33-year-old Brian Loftis, were killed early Wednesday.

Senior Officer Travis Pace says a 21-year-old man slammed into the couple’s vehicle. Officials are trying to determine whether the driver was intoxicated. He was taken for a blood test and released pending the results.

The couple was camping on the beach until they had money for a permanent place to live. Rick Crowder, who met them when they moved to Corpus Christi weeks ago, says Lisa Loftis was working at a hotel and Brian Loftis was looking for work.
