BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man has been sentenced to prison for distributing heroin.

U.S. Attorney Deirdre M. Daly says 37-year-old Anthony Velez, also known as “Tone,” was sentenced to 34 months behind bars followed by three years of probation.

Velez pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute heroin on Feb. 16.

The charges stem from a joint federal and local investigation into heroin distribution in New Haven. Prosecutors say law enforcement has seized approximately 500 grams of raw heroin, three handguns and five vehicles as part of the investigation.

In July 2015, a grand jury in New Haven returned an indictment charging Velez and 16 other New Haven residents with heroin trafficking offenses.

Velez was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Bridgeport.
