GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - A National Park Service contractor who was mowing along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway has died after being struck by a car.

The U.S. Park Police said in a news release that the unidentified man was struck Tuesday afternoon by a vehicle traveling north on the highway in Prince George’s County about a mile outside the Beltway.

He died that night at a hospital from his injuries.

Authorities are trying to determine whether the vehicle left the roadway or if the mower was not in the median at the time of the collision.

The investigation closed northbound lanes of the highway for several hours Tuesday.
