HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Prosecutors have dropped a murder charge against a Windsor man accused of fatally shooting another man in the parking lot of a Hartford Walmart.

Twenty-six-year-old Kenneth Reid had turned himself in to police March 28. He told investigators he shot 34-year-old Larry Williams of New Britain in self-defense after Williams pulled a shotgun on him during an arranged sale of Reid’s sunglasses. Reid has a valid firearms permit.

The Hartford Courant (https://cour.at/29X31gH ) reports that prosecutor Vicki Melchiorre told a judge Wednesday in Hartford that evidence reviewed by the state in the case is consistent with Reid’s self-defense claim.

An arrest report says Reid denied knowledge of marijuana found at the scene.

Melchiorre says other evidence, including the shotgun, couldn’t be verified by investigators.

Reid says he’s “happy” with the outcome.
