NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Authorities say a man who stole a vehicle evaded police and crashed the car into a train in Norfolk.

The Norfolk Police Department said in a statement that the two men inside the car were taken to the hospital.

The incident began Wednesday night after police spotted the stolen car and chased after it. Police say that the car sped away at high speeds before it crashed into a train.

The officers who chased the car were able to rescue both men from the vehicle before it caught fire. Both men were taken to the hospital and are in stable condition.

Police say charges will be forthcoming.
