NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - State Rep. Raumesh Akbari has been selected to speak at the Democratic National Convention next week in Philadelphia.

Tennessee Democratic Party Chair Mary Mancini said on Thursday that that she was thrilled that Hillary Clinton’s campaign had chosen Akbari to speak.

Mancini called Akbari a “perfect example of the future of our party.”

Akbari, a young black Memphis attorney, was elected to the state Legislature in 2013.

She joins prominent national Democrats on the speakers’ list, including U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Al Franken of Minnesota and former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean.
