JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - At 17-year-old was shot and killed in Jackson as he tried to break into a car.

Police tell WAPT-TV (https://bit.ly/2ak2HuV ) the incident was reported about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police say a man at Performance Oil Equipment saw the teenager breaking into the vehicle and told him to stop. When he didn’t comply, investigators said the man shot him several times in the chest.

The teenager, identified as Charles McDonald, was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he died.

The case remains under investigation.
