CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) - Officials believe a 17-year-old high school student from Virginia’s Eastern Shore is the youngest delegate at this year’s Republican National Convention.

News outlets report that Jack Salm, of Cape Charles, is likely the youngest delegate taking part in this week’s convention in Cleveland.

Salm tells the Virginian-Pilot (https://bit.ly/2a2os1c ) that he was elected to become the chairman of Northampton County’s Republican Party earlier this year after members asked him to get more involved.

Salm says he has met Donald Trump and he hopes other Republicans will rally behind their nominee.

Salm is a rising senior at Broadwater Academy in Exmore. He is registered to vote and will turn 18 just days before the Nov. 8 general election.
