YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Facebook officials have confirmed that they have successfully tested a solar-powered drone at Yuma Proving Ground.

The Yuma Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2aiPxLu ) that the social media giant’s Connectivity Lab tested the unmanned aircraft last month at the military testing site. The drone is expected to provide internet access to remote areas.

Facebook Global Head of Engineering and Infrastructure posted a video of the c-shaped Aquila drone’s flight around Yuma Proving Ground.

Facebook has been testing a fifth-scale model of Aquila for months but this was the first test of a full-sized drone. The full model has a wingspan wider than a Boeing 737’s but weighs less than an electric car. The drone is designed to fly using solar power during the day and battery power at night.
