NORTHPORT, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say a deadly house fire in Northport was an accident, and they’ve identified the victim as 53-year-old Tammy Hannah Harris, who lived at the home.

Northport Fire Rescue Chief Bart Marshall tells The Tuscaloosa News (https://bit.ly/29QoCZS) that the Wednesday blaze began in the kitchen.

Northport fire Capt. Jason Norris says fire crews found heavy fire at the house when they arrived Wednesday afternoon.

Norris said a firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.

The Tuscaloosa newspaper reports that it’s the first fire-related death in Tuscaloosa County this year. The state fire marshal’s office says there have been 56 fire deaths statewide this year.
