GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - Authorities have released the identity of the National Park Service contractor who died after being struck by a car while mowing along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

U.S. Park Police announced Thursday that 72-year-old Joseph Benjamin Edmonds of Annandale, Virginia, was the contractor who died.

Edmonds worked for Davey Commercial Landscape Service, a contractor for the National Park Service. He had been mowing a median strip when a car traveling north on the parkway struck him Tuesday afternoon.

Edmonds sustained critical injuries and died later that night at a hospital.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
