LAS VEGAS (AP) - Democratic Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto has launched an ad that plays on divides among Republicans over GOP Gov. Brian Sandoval’s tax package.

Cortez Masto’s campaign says in the ad that she supports the Sandoval-backed legislation, which raised and extended taxes to help fund new education initiatives.

Democrats unanimously supported it, while Republicans lawmakers split on the issue.

Cortez Masto says her Republican opponent Rep. Joe Heck opposes it, citing comments he made to a real estate group suggesting the new commerce tax could have an impact on small businesses.

She says it’s time to work together to solve problems.

Heck’s campaign responded by saying Cortez Masto put partisan ambitions ahead of her job while she was Nevada’s attorney general. The campaign also noted that Sandoval endorsed Heck.
