FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - The owner of a Fresno nursing home has been accused of taking thousands of dollars from residents in order to pay vendors, payroll and facility costs.

KFSN-TV reports (https://abc30.tv/2aBfqFI ) that the owner of Sunnyside Convalescent Hospital has been booked into the Fresno County Jail and accused of taking money from 57 residents of his facility, six of whom have since died.

Fresno County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Botti says the owner was responsible for managing trust accounts for people at the nursing home. When investigators ordered an audit they found he had moved money from residents’ pensions and social security benefits to the hospital’s business account.
