TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A 17-year-old boy in Toledo has been sentenced to life prison without parole for killing his 16-year-old ex-girlfriend and her 14-year-old brother.

Devonte Brown was sentenced as an adult Thursday after entering an Alford plea last month to aggravated murder and other charges. That means he didn’t admit guilt but concedes prosecutors have enough evidence to convict him.

Police say he was 16 when he attacked the two teens last August along with their mother who survived.

His former girlfriend, Joscelyn Jones, died days later from complications of strangulation. She also had been raped. Her 14-year-old brother, Johnny Jones III, died from multiple stab wounds.

Police say they found the bodies after Brown told his mom that he had done “something awful.”
