HONOLULU (AP) - Guests and staff at a Waikiki hotel were evacuated because of an early morning kitchen fire.

The Honolulu Fire Department says no one was injured and firefighters were able to quickly extinguish Friday’s fire at the Pacific Beach Hotel.

Firefighters were called to the hotel at about 6 a.m. because of a strong smell of smoke coming from the fifth floor kitchen.

Firefighters determined it was coming from a burnt-out electrical motor in the kitchen ventilation system.

Department spokesman Capt. David Jenkins says guests were soon allowed to return to their rooms.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
