CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Police say a West Virginia sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a Pennsylvania man in response to a call about trespassing.

Upshur County Sheriff David Coffman told the Charleston Gazette-Mail (https://bit.ly/2a0TlyH ) that 50-year-old Paul Edward Yacabitis of Covington Township, Pennsylvania, died after the Childers Run-area shooting.

Police say they received a call Thursday night about a possibly intoxicated man on a motorcycle on someone else’s property.

Coffman says Yacabitis was undergoing a field sobriety test when the incident escalated, and both men fired at each other once.

Coffman didn’t provide additional information, saying he didn’t want to hinder a State Police investigation. Police have not yet released the deputy’s name.
