NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - One of the leading contenders to be Hillary Clinton’s running mate wasn’t dropping any hints whether he was the choice of the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee as he traveled through New England.

Virginia U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine waved to reporters but kept his window up Friday as he was driven into a private fundraiser in Newport, Rhode Island, hosted by fellow Democratic U.S. Sen. Jack Reed.

Reed said earlier in the day that Kaine would make a good vice president because of his intellect and temperament.

Kaine also attended a private midday fundraiser Friday at the University of Massachusetts Club in Boston.

Former Massachusetts Treasurer Steve Grossman, who was at the Boston fundraiser, said Kaine told those at the event that he doesn’t know if he’s Clinton’s vice presidential pick.

This story has been corrected to show Kaine kept window up as he was driven into fundraiser.
