UNION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Officials are seeking public comment on a plan for a new shooting range in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says an environmental assessment of the proposed range in Grand Traverse County’s Union Township is available for public comment through July 30.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has proposed the range with funding from the Fish and Wildlife Service’s Wildlife Restoration Act. The DNR says that if the location is approved and funding comes through the next step is final design work before construction.

The DNR evaluated several potential sites for the new shooting range. Documents related to the proposed range are posted online.
