RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia’s attorney general’s office is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reject the appeal of a death row inmate.

Lawyers for Ricky Gray have asked the court to hear his appeal of this death sentence. Gray was sentenced to death in the 2006 stabbing and bludgeoning deaths of a husband and wife and their two young daughters.

Gray’s lawyers claim Virginia courts did not allow them to develop and present challenges the constitutionality of his death sentence.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/2ajMt1X ) that the attorney general’s office says there is no basis for an appeal.

Last month, the American Bar Association filed a friend of the court brief urging the justices to hear the appeal.
