MIAMI (AP) - Authorities say a 200-pound black bear has been safely removed from a South Florida residential area.

The Miami Herald (https://goo.gl/U2BEkd ) reports that residents of the Cutler Bay neighborhood began calling the police Friday morning after spotting the bear sitting in a tree.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission dispatched bear biologists and law enforcement to the area. Officials say wildlife officers shot the bear with a tranquilizer gun Friday afternoon. The animal was removed from the tree and transported to a facility next to Zoo Miami.

Bears are relatively rare in South Florida. Their main habitat is Big Cypress National Preserve, about 45 miles west of Miami.
