ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An Albuquerque man accused of multiple carjackings and using a gun to commandeer a car from a woman and her three children has been sentenced to 27 1/2 years in federal prison.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Thomas Martinez also was sentenced Tuesday to five years of supervised release.

They say Martinez committed a total of four carjacking and firearms offenses on July 22, 2015.

He was trying to evade Albuquerque police officers seeking to arrest him on a warrant arising out of an unrelated state court case.

Martinez pleaded guilty in December 2015 to two counts of carjacking and one count of discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
