A British Council leader has sparked backlash in the U.K. after she attacked 3-year-old Prince George for his so-called “white privilege.”

Angela Gibbins, head of Global Estates for the cultural relations organization, which is partially taxpayer-funded, wrote in a Facebook post that the only child of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is “[p]rivileged, rich and living off public money,” The Sun exclusively reported Monday.

“White privilege. That cheeky grin is the innate knowledge he’s royal, rich, advantaged and will never know ANY difficulties or hardships in life,” Ms. Gibbins, 52, wrote underneath a photo of the child, according to The Sun.

Her post was immediately met with criticism, to which she reportedly responded: “I have a multi-faceted political opinion. That’s not hate, and I hate no human being on this planet as an individual.

“But I do disagree with the system that creates privilege of any sort. And I have a dedication to calling that out for what it is,” she wrote.

“I’m sound in my socialist, atheist and republican opinions,” she added. “I don’t believe the royal family have any place in a modern democracy, least of all when they live on public money. That’s privilege and it needs to end.”

Tory MP Andrew Rosindell demanded Ms. Gibbins issue an immediate public apology for the “deeply inappropriate” comments.

The British Council said it will examine whether Ms. Gibbins broke its social media policy.

“This comment was made on a private social media account,” the council said in a statement, The Guardian reported. “It has absolutely no connection to the British Council and does not represent the views of the British Council.”

“That said we expect the highest standards of our staff and we will be investigating the matter further,” the statement said.
