ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A man accused of pushing a snowboarder off an Aspen chairlift has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Judge Chris Seldin made the ruling in the case of 32-year-old Thomas Proesel Monday, accepting the findings of a state psychologist who diagnosed him with schizophrenia.

Proesel was charged with attempted assault for pushing Seth Beckton off a lift at Aspen Highlands in January after asking Beckton whether he was mocking him. He fell about 25 feet but landed in deep snow and wasn’t hurt.

Proesel was treated at a psychiatric residential center after his arrest. The Aspen Times (https://bit.ly/2aeTcZi ) reports that the judge ordered him to be evaluated at the Colorado Mental Health Institute, which will determine where he will be treated now and whether he can be released into the community.
