SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Federal education officials are investigating how quickly the University of Utah investigates sexual assault reports.

The U.S. Department of Education said Tuesday that Utah was added last month to a list of 200 colleges in the county under investigation by the agency’s civil rights offices about sexual violence incidents.

The investigation comes after a former student filed a federal complaint alleging the university mishandled her sexual assault report.

University of Utah spokeswoman Maria O’Mara says the school was notified the investigation will examine how promptly the reports are handled. O’Mara says the university will cooperate fully.

The Salt Lake Tribune first reported the investigation.

Westminster College is the only other Utah school being investigated by the Department of Education for sexual violence incidents.
