NEW HAVEN, W.Va. (AP) - A highway worker has died in an accident in rural Mason County where a tree that fell during a recent storm was being removed.

The Charleston Gazette-Mail (https://bit.ly/2a7DgcH ) reports 52-year-old Steven Lloyd Oldaker of Letart died Monday evening. The Mason County sheriff’s office said Oldaker died when trying to remove a tree from Union Campground Road.

Police released Oldaker’s name.

Transportation Department spokeswoman Carrie Jones wouldn’t identify him by name but said he was a transportation worker with five years of service. Jones said firefighters were cutting the tree in the New Haven area when highway workers arrived. Oldaker was walking near the tree when it fell and pinned him.

A highway worker was injured Thursday after being pinned under a large rock in Roane County. Jones said Tuesday his condition is improving.
