WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man was killed after the car he was driving struck a series of boulders on the shoulder of the road.

Police on Tuesday identified the man as 76-year-old John Bert, of Warwick.

Police responded to the scene of the crash just after 4 p.m. Monday. Police say Bert was driving south on Warwick Neck Avenue when it happened.

Bert was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Bert was the sole occupant in the vehicle, and no other injuries were reported.

Police say speed and alcohol were not factors. They say it’s possible that a medical issue led to the crash.
