ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state is extending the hours of operation at state pools, parks and beaches during the ongoing heatwave.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the longer hours Tuesday, calling the state’s beaches, pools and lakes “the perfect way to beat the heat.”

Ocean beaches at Jones Beach, Robert Moses, Sunken Meadow and Hither Hills state parks will all remain open until 8:15 p.m. through Thursday.

Several upstate state parks with beaches, lakes or pools will also have later hours.

In addition, sprinklers will be turned on at the Gantry Plaza and East River state parks in New York City.

High temperatures are expected to climb into the high 80s and low 90s across much of the state through Thursday before more moderate weather arrives Friday.
