JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming teenager has pleaded no contest to molesting a toddler at his mother’s day care.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reports (https://bit.ly/2a2p6aK ) that the Jackson teenager was 15 when prosecutors say he molested a 3-year-old girl, but a Pinedale judge ruled that he would be tried as an adult.

The teen submitted a written plea Monday, a week before he was scheduled to go to trial on the sexual assault charge. Judge Timothy Day questioned his understanding of the plea agreement before accepting it.

The plea gives the court flexibility in determining the boy’s punishment. Day described several possible sentences, including the possibility of the conviction being dismissed if the teen successfully completes probation.

The teen will undergo a presentence investigation that could take up to two months.
