DUNKIRK, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 4-year-old western New York boy is recovering from a gunshot wound suffered when the firearm he was playing with discharged.

Police in Dunkirk say they were called late Monday night to a home for a report of a person with a gunshot wound. Officers say the boy was playing with a gun when it went off.

The boy was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to Women and Children’s Hospital in Buffalo. Police say he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police haven’t released other details, including the type of weapon that injured the boy.

No one has been charged. The investigation is continuing.
