PONCHATOULA, La. (AP) - A southeast Louisiana food service company has been bought by one from California.

Neither Good Source Solutions of Carlsbad, California, nor Pon Food Corp. of Ponchatoula (pahn-chuh-TOO-luh), Louisiana, disclosed the price.

“The business that we have now is going to stay and get better,” Pon Food president Tony Berner Jr. told the Hammond Star (https://bit.ly/2aabgFd ) on Tuesday. “It’s a great opportunity for our employees and for our customers.”

He will remain president of Pon Food, which will remain in Ponchatoula. Berner said he expects more jobs and opportunities in Louisiana, and customers will be able to buy many more products.

Good Source Solutions is getting more ties with education, corrections and food service companies and a stronger distribution network in the Southeast, according to a July 18 statement.

Pon Foods serves all southeast Louisiana schools and some in southwest Louisiana.

Founded by Tony and Bonnie Berner in 1956, Pon Food has been passed down three generations and serves 790 customers in the state, Berner Jr. said. The business started as a frozen retail distributor and shifted its focus to wholesale products four years later, and began providing food for school systems, colleges and restaurants in the 1960s.

Good Source Solutions was founded in 1989, selling surplus food that manufacturers otherwise would have discarded to relief organizations, food banks and correctional institutions, according to its website.
