NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Police in western New York say firefighters searching for hot spots following a blaze broke through a hole in the wall of a building and found a sophisticated marijuana growing operation in a second building.

Investigators tell the Niagara Gazette (https://bit.ly/29ZFrlc ) the discovery was made Tuesday morning at a complex of buildings in the city of Niagara Falls.

Police say they saw sheets of hanging plastic and dozens of 6-inch and 3- to 4-feet tall marijuana plants.

Investigators say there may have been as much as $50,000 worth of plant-growing equipment in the building, which had a sophisticated air-conditioning system, elaborate lighting system, and a special carbon dioxide system to foster plant growth.

The building was taking electricity directly from an altered power pole.

No arrests have been reported.
