BATTLE GROUND, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say they’ve responded to several calls reporting suspicious items in people’s yards outside Vancouver that turned out to be “pop bottle bombs” that had not ruptured.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said over the past few days a call came in from north of Battle Ground and one was in the Orchards area. Deputies determined the items were plastic pop bottles with unknown chemicals in them.

The sheriff’s office says the devices were made by mixing two items in a bottle, creating pressure and causing the bottle to rupture, creating a sound similar to a gun shot.

The Portland Metro Explosives Unit responded in the first two cases. In the third instance, a deputy determined the bottle was not a danger and disposed of it.
