PHOENIX (AP) - Police say a homicide suspect who had been barricaded in a west Phoenix apartment for hours has been found dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

They say the suspect was wanted in connection with a murder case in another state.

The suspect’s name and details of the homicide case weren’t immediately released Wednesday night.

Phoenix police say officers responded to the area of 35th Avenue and Indian School Road to assist the FBI about 3:30 p.m. after the suspect was spotted and ran from law enforcement into the apartment.

Members of the Phoenix Police Special Assignments Unit were negotiating with the suspect.

After hours of negotiations, authorities say the suspect was found dead inside the apartment.

The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Medical Examiner.
