PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a former New York state prison guard has pleaded guilty to coordinating the distribution of marijuana smuggled from Canada to locations throughout the eastern U.S.

U.S. Attorney Richard Hartunian says 33-year-old Brad Rushford of Ellenburg Depot in Clinton County pleaded guilty Wednesday to being a member of a drug ring that trafficked more than 200 pounds of marijuana.

Rushford’s co-defendant and mother, Freda Rushford of Saratoga Springs, pleaded guilty on July 6 to being part of the same marijuana ring.

Rushford had been a corrections officer at Franklin Correctional Facility in Malone. Prosecutors say he faces at least five and up to 40 years in prison when he’s sentenced Dec. 1.
