PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - National Grid is using a helicopter to check its electric lines in Rhode Island and look for damage caused by recent thunderstorms.

The utility said it was conducting the helicopter flyovers Wednesday.

The aerial inspections are examining sub-transmission lines, which deliver power among substations.

The utility says it uses high-powered gyroscopic binoculars to inspect the electric grid across rugged and isolated terrain. The flyovers were expected to continue until 5 p.m.
