LOWELL, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for raping a child over the course of several years.

The Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2a4r0rs ) 33-year-old Phillip St. Hilaire, of Lowell, was sentenced Tuesday. A Lowell Superior Court jury earlier this month found St. Hilaire guilty of forcibly raping a child, aggravated raped of a child and other offenses.

This was his second trial on the charges. The first trial ended last fall when the jury deadlocked.

Prosecutors say the assaults began when the girl was 6 years old and continued until about two years ago, when she was 13.

Defense attorney Robert Normandin had argued the girl fabricated the allegations.

St. Hilaire is a registered sex offender who was convicted of sexual assault when he was 15.
