NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) - A New York man accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in Massachusetts in 2001 is representing himself in his second trial.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette (https://bit.ly/2auhvHD ) reports a judge on Tuesday granted a motion filed by 47-year-old Guy Bush, of Grand Island, New York, to have his attorney dismissed.

A judge in May declared a mistrial in Bush’s case. The jury had returned a guilty verdict. But Bush’s attorney asked that jurors be polled individually. One juror said everyone didn’t agree and the judge immediately declared a mistrial.

Prosecutors allege Bush molested the girl multiple times while living in South Hadley. He knew the girl’s family but is not related.

Bush pleaded not guilty after his 2014 indictment. The second trial is expected to start in October.
