PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. (AP) - Residents of about 200 homes in the Los Angeles County city of Palos Verdes Estates are being warned not to drink or cook with their tap water after locks were found broken on a storage tank.

California Water Service issued the warning Monday after the breach was discovered by workers doing routine maintenance on the 50-thousand gallon tank.

Agency officials said Tuesday that initial testing has not revealed any problems with the water, but they’re advising residents to avoid drinking it out of an abundance of caution until the advisory is lifted.

The state Division of Drinking Water was investigating the incident with local law enforcement.

City News Service reports residents were told to drink bottled water and save their receipts for reimbursement.

Officials said security at the site would be increased in the future.
