DE KALB, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 13-year-old boy has died from injuries suffered when the utility vehicle he was driving in a northern New York field overturned and landed on top of him.

Troopers say Grant Woodrow was driving a four-wheel Polaris Ranger in a grassy field in the St. Lawrence County town of De Kalb around 9 p.m. Tuesday when he made an abrupt right turn. Police say that caused the UTV to crash on its driver’s side, coming to rest on top of the teen.

He was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital before being airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for treatment of a broken leg and internal injuries. Troopers say died at the Syracuse hospital Wednesday.

Troopers say the teen wasn’t wearing a helmet or a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Police say the crash remains under investigation.

This story has been changed to correct the spelling of the teen’s first name to Grant instead of Grand.
