SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts woman has been sentenced to up to 13 years in prison for fatally stabbing her boyfriend.

The Essex district attorney’s office says 67-year-old Susan Lovejoy was sentenced after pleading guilty to manslaughter Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Lovejoy stabbed 51-year-old Kevin Paul in their Haverhill apartment on May 6, 2013. Police initially responded to the apartment for a reported disturbance and found Lovejoy intoxicated. She told police she was drinking and had taken Adderall and Percocet pills that weren’t prescribed to her.

Police responded a second time that evening for a report of a suicide and found Paul covered in blood. Lovejoy told police Paul had stabbed himself, but detectives determined the wound could not have been self-inflicted.
