GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say the bodies of a former commission candidate and his wife were found dead in their home in north Georgia.

Hall County Police spokesman deputy Stephen Wilbanks tells local news media the bodies of Troy Phillips and Heather Phillips were discovered by a friend around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the couple’s Chicopee Village home. Wilbanks says both appeared to be dead of gunshot wounds.

Troy Phillips lost to incumbent Jeff Stowe in a race for the District 4 seat on the Hall County Board of Commissioners in May.

Troy Phillips’ campaign website says he is a 10-year combat veteran. He also served in the Persian Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Wilbanks says there were no signs of a break-in.
