NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a man who tried to rob a gas station at knifepoint was chased off when a clerk got a baseball bat and swung it at him.

The agency says in a news release that a man went into a BP gas station in New Castle Wednesday evening. Troopers say the man was armed with a knife, and demanded money from the gas station clerk and a customer.

Police say the clerk fetched a baseball bat and swung it at the suspect. The robber ran away from the store emptyhanded.
