GRAND CANYON, Ariz. (AP) - Fire managers expect increased activity from a lightning-caused wildfire on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and firefighters are preparing new potential fire breaks.

Firefighters are preparing two forest roads as potential fire breaks ahead of the west side of the fire to keep it away from State Route 67, the highway serving the North Rim.

The expectation of increased activity is due to forecasts for hotter temperatures and lower humidity during the next several days.

Approximately 270 personnel are fighting the fire, which has burned 22 square miles of timber and grass in rugged terrain since starting June 29.

The highway and developed areas of the North Rim remain open.
