WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) - A man who beat and shook his girlfriend’s toddler to death has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced the sentence Thursday for Carlton Brown of the Bronx.

He previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the August 2014 death of 2½-year-old Kali (KAL’-ee) Mack.

Brown told rescuers the little girl had fallen off a bed. She died at a hospital the next day.

In court, Brown admitted hitting her head and shaking her.
