MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) - A project to develop Clark Lambros Beach Park along Lake Superior in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is nearing completion.

WLUC-TV reports the park in Marquette will include picnic tables, barbecues, a paved parking lot, restroom facilities, mats to make the beach handicap accessible and an accessible kayak launch on the Dead River.

A dedication is planned Aug. 14. Project coordinator Michele Butler says it’s been “a labor of love.”

The roughly 10-acre park honors the memory of restaurant owner Clark Lambros and his son Clark Lambros Jr. The Mining Journal of Marquette reports that the elder Lambros proposed the project before his death in 2012.
