MASHPEE, Mass. (AP) - A seven-hour standoff between police and an armed man who barricaded himself inside a Cape Cod store and threatened to harm himself and others has ended without any injuries.

It started just after noon Wednesday in Mashpee when police responded to a request for a well-being check on the Falmouth man.

Police say the 41-year-old man was armed with an AR-15 assault-style weapon and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

The strip mall on Route 28 was evacuated at around 1 p.m. and a negotiator responded to the scene. The standoff ended around 7:35 p.m. when the man surrendered. Police say the man was hospitalized for a mental health evaluation. His name wasn’t released.

No charges have been filed.
