PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police say the driver of a tractor-trailer has died following a crash on Interstate 95 South.

Police responded to the scene of the crash at 2 p.m. Thursday on the highway in Hopkinton, Rhode Island.

Police say the tractor-trailer cut to the right to avoid a car that was changing lanes north of Exit 1.

The truck driver struck the guardrail and continued across the exit ramp, colliding into a tree.

The driver was flown to Rhode Island Hospital, where he died of his injuries. Police didn’t immediately identify him.

Police say the car that was changing lanes didn’t hit the tractor trailer. Police say the car’s driver, and only occupant, stopped and called police.

The highway lanes were closed for about two hours.

Police are investigating.
