DENVER (AP) - Authorities say a handgun stolen from a suburban Denver gun store in June was used in the accidental shooting of a 13-year-old boy.

The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/2avRUN3 ) that police say the boy was shot in the leg on July 14 in an apartment in Edgewater, a small town just west of Denver. Police Chief John Mackey says the incident was “an accidental shooting between friends.”

Investigators determined the weapon used in the shooting was stolen in one of two gun shop burglaries in Littleton on June 21 and June 22.

Twenty-nine handguns were taken from Colorado Gun Broker, while burglars got away with several firearms from Triple J Armory.

Edgewater and Littleton police are working with federal authorities on an ongoing investigation into the burglaries.
