NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey woman is heading to prison for the starvation death of her 8-year-old daughter and the beatings of the girl’s two young siblings.

A judge on Wednesday sentenced 34-year-old Krisla Kris to 45 years behind bars. The Irvington woman was convicted in March of aggravated manslaughter and child endangerment for beating and denying food to her two other children, a 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl who survived.

Kris was acquitted of murder.

She was charged after her daughter, Christiana Glenn, died of starvation and an untreated broken femur in 2011.

Her attorneys argued she was a single mother with a diminished mental capacity who had fallen under the influence of a preacher who advised her on how to treat her children. A co-defendant is awaiting trial.
